So much for being a prolific writer, eh? How long has it been since I published something?
David and Tom Kelley wrote Creative Confidence, the textbook which inspired a virtual workshop my graduate teammates and I designed back in October. In it, the brothers talk about how creative abilities are like muscles. They grow and strengthen with practice. What gets in the way often is the inner perfectionist in us. Boy, I know that so very well! I want the perfect picture and the perfect, inspirational words to populate the digital pages of my blog. I guess at the rate it is going, I will record very little for the ones I love.
The brothers also say, "If you want to make something great, you need to start making." Here's yet another attempt to do something creative every day for the next 30 days. 🙄 I will write blog posts, create photo quote collages, start and populate an Instagram account, cook, bake, and declutter (that's creative coz I have an incredibly messy house right now! 🤣) I will post something somewhere, despite how imperfectly unfinished it is. This should build up some resilience as well as I learn to let go of my fear of what people might think. 🤪
This post is dedicated to a friend of mine who will be acknowledged in my first book when it is published. She is one of my greatest cheerleaders. A physician by day or night, depending on her shift, a creative soul at all times, she writes, paints, sews, and creates in her kitchen as well. She's an active participant with NaNoWriMo, an adventure I will join next November. For my birthday this year, she took some time from her busy schedule serving our city as one of our essential workers and brought over some pumpkin rolls she baked. She brought enough for my whole family although truth be told, those who snoozed... lost! Yeah, I confess. They were so good, I wolfed down more than my fair share. In my defense, I was the birthday girl, after all!
I have hopes that this time, I will succeed in doing one creative thing a day for the next 30 days. Wish me all the best!!
