TILT #31 - Do what you can ...

Y'know, I can't believe how difficult it is for me to do something creative every single day. Especially when there is the temptation of 24-hour access to streaming entertainment services. Yep. Due to the kids' winter break, I went ahead and got a one-month subscription to one of those big providers of entertainment. My mom always said that if "TV programs" was a course/ subject at school, I'd get an A++. Does anybody else out there have my weakness? Or am I all alone? At least, I remain somewhat disciplined. I only paid for one subscription. Therefore, I know who Grogu <••> is now but I still have no idea what the Queen's Gambit is. 😉

Thankfully, even though I did not write something creative daily, I did play and experiment with one of the following creative outputs like digital collage-making, video creation, vegan cooking, and I am about to start learning to play drums. The me of old would have wanted to do all of this within one day but the growing me is accepting that I am only human and that I do not need to live by interminable, king-sized To-Do lists to determine my sense of worth. Truth be told though, I still get tempted to get back to those unending lists as some of my friends live that way and a part of me admires what they seem to be able to accomplish. Still, I know I am not them and I have to plot my own journey and stay true to my own calling, no matter what anybody else thinks I should do or where I should go.

Therefore, as a simple motto to begin a new year, I am just taking this opportunity to commit to something simple that is attributed to Theodore Roosevelt. He supposedly said, "Do what you can, with what you have, where you are." American basketball player and coach, John Wooden has said something similar to that which I share with my students every year (see my collage below). I won't let what I cannot do interfere with what I can do. So, onwards I go, into my future and my destiny. May God protect me on the next phase of my journey.

May 2021 bring hope and health to all of us living on this big, blue marble, 3rd from the sun in this galaxy called the Milky Way.

PS - I am not going to get upset that while I took the time to complete writing this blog post, the clock passed midnight and this is being posted on the 2nd day of the new year instead of the 1st. I will simply do this - 😛
