TILT # 46 - Sometimes, it's okay to wait a little...

If you've been reading the last few blog posts, there's a theme of mortality and the sands of time slipping through an hourglass running through my writing. I am feeling my age and I am feeling this great push to leave a brilliant legacy behind. I am a collector of inspirational quotes and I have a big drawerful of all the Nike-style-just-do-it-Carpe-Diem style sayings. Yeah. I know all that.

At same time though, I'm really quite tired out constantly running towards something. Rushing, rushing, rushing because, y'know, time is running out. All these sayings about not letting the rain stop you, about dancing in the rain, etc. etc. Yep. I know.

Guess what I also know? It really is okay to rest and wait for a better day. As Asian firstborn, resting and waiting was not in my training. It's led to my always feeling guilty about resting and waiting. That was my old way of being. I've been experimenting with new ways of being. Going slow to go far makes sense to me these days. No need for me to succumb to the fear of missing out, eh?

Watching my dog over the last 24 hours has reminded me that indeed, sometimes, it's perfectly fine to wait for a better day. She absolutely loves her daily walks and it's been a rainy few days. I caught her looking forlornly out the window and patio door. Sadly, I could not record her sighs but here she is, waiting for a better day.

The better day came the day after. Actually, it was just a better moment, not a whole day. There was a break in the rain long enough for her to enjoy the outdoors without getting drenched. It was good enough. She was just happy to be out, doing her thing.

I'd like to think my pup was not burdened with regrets having to wait for her opportunity to do what makes her happy.

I know I'm on track to a new chapter in my life. Striving daily to find the details of that chapter so I can get there faster keeps me in that hamster-wheel. I'd like to exercise the right to pause, especially when the weather around me is confusing. Sometimes, it is perfectly fine to wait for clearer skies so I can see where I'm going...
