Beloved, I have no idea when you will read this post but it's March 24th, 2020 and there is a pandemic scaring the world. People are fearful for their lives and lots of stupidity and harm are coming from the fear including the irrational fear of running out of toilet paper. Governments are imposing lockdowns to keep movement of people to a minimum to help prevent the Covid-19 virus from spreading.
In the midst of all of this chaos, businesses and corporations are offering their services and technology for free as schools shut down in different continents. In Canada, the movement of #caremongering is gaining ground to combat fear mongering. This whole situation reminds me of a question during my interview for graduate school: In times of adversity, what do you lean on?
Number one answer was, "My faith". :-) Number two was that more than looking at a glass half full, I am very grateful I even have a glass.
So, in this time of pandemic scare, I am thankful for my extreme privileges, that I have a warm home to stay in, enough food to eat and technology that enables me to stay connected.
It snowed today in Montreal. I saw a photo of a big smiley face someone had made in the freshly fallen snow. I loved it. It made me smile. I went out to make one as well so I could send it to my students and hopefully make them smile. I can't do much at this time but this small thing I managed to do. Theodore Roosevelt's quote comes to mind at this time, "Do what you can with what you have where you are".
In times of adversity, we have a choice. What will yours be, I wonder?
PS - don't be afraid of the black screen below, there really is a worthwhile short little video below. I am not a filmmaker by trade so the start of the video is simply a mark of imperfection which I am perfectly at peace to acknowledge.
